Advanced Associate or Full Professor, Gender Studies, Penny Kanner Endowed Chair Search 2012-13

The Department of Gender Studies at the University of California Los Angeles is searching for the inaugural occupant of the Penny Kanner Endowed Chair (Job #0925-1213-01).  We seek an advanced associate or early full professor in any field; those holding appointments in the social sciences or in professional schools are especially encouraged to apply.  We seek applicants who have made a significant research contribution to the field, and whose ongoing research program extends the study of women, gender, and sexuality in new directions.  The department is especially interested in candidates with ideas for program-building and forging connections with other units on campus, and with evidence of successful intellectual leadership.

UCLA’s Department of Gender Studies is a growing department with approximately 200 undergraduate majors, 50 minors, and 27 Ph.D. students. Our current faculty are diverse in every way, representing a range of intellectual interests. Existing strengths include transnational, postcolonial, and critical ethnic studies, as well as approaches that employ comparative frameworks, combine disciplinary and interdisciplinary methods in research and pedagogy, and demonstrate a commitment to activist intervention.  Our faculty have affiliations across campus with departments in the Social Sciences, Humanities, Law, Education, and Public Health. The department supports one of the oldest and most respected Ph.D. programs in the country, providing faculty with opportunities to train and mentor graduate students. Individuals with a history of and commitment to mentoring students from disadvantaged backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
